The neighborhood Crooswijk

De Rotterdamse wijk Crooswijk ligt ingeklemd tussen de wijk Kralingen, de Boezem, het Oude Noorden en Centrum. Crooswijk stond ooit bekend om zijn marinierskazerne. Crooswijk heeft ook een industrieel verleden. Jamin, de Heinekenbrouwerij en de RET tramremise waren er gevestigd. Deze industrieën hebben plaatsgemaakt voor sociale woningbouw. Aan de Crooswijksesingel staat alleen het monumentale kantoorgebouw van Heineken nog overeind. Crooswijk is een van de oorspronkelijk Rotterdamse volksbuurten (in tegenstelling tot veel andere volksbuurten in de stad, die van oorsprong zelfstandige dorpen waren) en de wijk wordt sterk geassocieerd met de ‘echte’ Rotterdammer en het Rotterdams dialect.
